Prepare

What to expect, what to bring, and how to be ready for time in the North.

This page sets clear expectations for the terrain, weather, pace, and camp life you will encounter. Our goal is to ensure every guest arrives confident, properly equipped, and mentally ready for the challenges and rewards of the Adirondack wild.

What to Expect

  • Terrain: Big woods and uneven ground. This is true wilderness with no maintained trails; you will be moving through blowdowns and thick spruce.
  • Weather: Conditions are often cold, wet, and highly variable. Be prepared for sudden changes in mountain weather.
  • Pace: Steady and deliberate. We focus on woodsmanship and observation rather than rushing to a destination.
  • Camp Culture: Quiet, respectful, and early mornings. We value shared effort and the stillness of the North.

Readiness & Gear

A simple checklist so you show up ready.

  • Broken-in, waterproof boots suitable for rugged terrain
  • Moisture-wicking base layers and wool mid-layers
  • High-quality, durable rain gear (top and bottom)
  • Baseline physical fitness for hiking off-trail
  • Ability to move comfortably over rough, slippery ground
  • Mental comfort with long days outside in all elements

Camp & Conduct

How we share camp and the woods.

  • Clean up after yourself and the group
  • Respect quiet hours: early mornings start with silence
  • Safety first: constant awareness of tools and woods
  • Honesty about your limits and terrain comfort
  • Unwavering respect for the land and the game we hunt
